Abstract

Type 2 diabetes represents a pervasive global public health challenge, necessitating the discovery of novel, safe, and efficacious antidiabetic agents. This study presents the first phytochemical investigation of Syzygium yunnanense, isolating 23 secondary metabolites. Compounds 2, 6, and 8, whose α-glucosidase inhibitory activity is reported for the first time in this work, exhibited stronger in vitro inhibition than the positive control quercetin, with stable target binding validated via molecular docking. These results establish a scientific foundation for S. yunnanense as a promising antidiabetic medicinal resource. The antibacterial activity was also tested.
